BFI researcher receives award as outstanding young scientist
Hokky Situngkir, the researcher in Dept. Computational Sociology and currently the President of the institute, receives the Ahmad Bakrie Special Prize 2011 as Outstanding Young Scientist from the Freedom Institute.
The research on Indonesian culture, especially on the famous Indonesian traditional culture, batik, is highlighted for the award. This is also related to the endeavors of BFI researchers as well as the Indonesian Archipelago Cultural Initiatives (IACI) for establishing the digital Indonesian cultural digital library (http://www.budaya-indonesia.org) that makes the public participation for the database of Indonesian traditional culture possible.
While the data is collected within participation, the scientific and unconventional research incorporating complexity sciences pushes the innovation that open the door for the strengthening the market of traditional small-scale entrepreneurship. Moreover, the analysis of the diverse elements in Indonesian traditional culture, some research has conjectured some further approach on seeing cultural innovation as evolutionary process, as well as some further works on our understanding to the role of innovation in the economy.
